House of Lies (nobody lives here)
House of Lies (nobody lives here)

"I completely understand. Take care." Covering over: "I'm devastated actually, and I'm wondering if romantic love is ever going to come through for me, but that's not your responsibility (anymore)."
The above is one of the first sketchbook notes I made about this new series on Romance. I planned to hide vulnerable revelations behind little paper doors and in tiny typefaces.
Obviously, the idea was split and used in pieces. I ended up reducing the confession above to three still images of a mouth as the smile drops off it. And the doors became an integral part of "The Bitch Who Broke His Heart". I drew the mouths and I drew the fingers crossed behind a back, and I thought: what is these small things were part of a larger puzzle?
This work is loaded with symbolism and actual lies I have personally told to people at (or near) the end of relationships. The only truths are in the poetry and body language, which feels fitting.

Fragments:
- delicate and translucent, these need to be mounted on mat board (ideally warm white).
- an 8x10 wood frame would probably look lovely!
The House
- the panel is ready to hang as-if you wish to add presence with a frame, I recommend a float-frame so that the edges of the image aren't covered. White or natural wood moulding would be ideal!
