Letterpressed Atwood Quotation
Letterpressed Atwood Quotation
I hope you enjoy this quotation from Margaret Atwood's short story collection Good Bones. This was the first passage I ever set in lead type, during my introduction to letterpress and typography class. I love the humour, the casual threatening tone, the feminist framing, the nod to Canadian foliage...
I had the pleasure of speaking briefly to Ms Atwood at a lecture she gave, after which she was signing books. I brought my dog-eared copy of Good Bones, and this print. I told her that I loved the book, and this bit in particular, and that I had printed it from lead, on a letterpress. She said (and I am heavily paraphrasing, it's been a few years) "Oh, I know. That's how I self-published my first chapbooks. Letterpress is the cheap and dirty, photocopy equivalent of my day." And she signed it. Sorry friends, I'm hanging on to that signed copy.
A friendly reminder, and shout out to my trans* pals: Genitalia is not what makes someone a man or a woman or any other gender. <3
This is a letterpress printed composition of hand-set lead type. It is printed with lightfast rubber based ink on olive coloured paper that was donated to the artist. The paper measures 8.5 x 11" (21 x 28cm). Each print is signed and editioned along the bottom edge of the page.
- 10% of all print sales are donated! In March 2021 they're going to The Endometriosis Network Canada.
